Dinosaur Gallery — Wayfinding Graphics

American Museum of Natural History
Dinosaur Gallery Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics (2017)

The Dinosaur Gallery is a partnership between Columbus, Ohio's Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City — home to one of the world's most extensive dinosaur collections. The new gallery at COSI is focused on the evolutionary links between dinosaurs and birds, where visitors will discover how the dinosaurs’ story continues today.

MKSK was tasked with the design of wayfinding and environmental graphics that would maintain the AMNH's identity and guide visitors to the gallery entrance. The graphics team wanted to capture the transition of the dinosaurs from 65 million years ago into their new, small, airborne form.

The dinosaur graphics and confuciusornis (bird silhouettes) are "life-size." The drawings helped the designers at MKSK and the installation teams at COSI discuss design intent and ensure accurate placement of the wayfinding elements.
